SPRINGFIELD, IL. – The Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) will make its Illinois State Fair debut this year, inviting fairgoers to explore the state’s newest agency dedicated to supporting young children, families and the early childhood workforce.

On July 1, 2026, IDEC brought together early childhood programs and services under one roof to make it easier for families, providers and communities to access resources and support.

At the IDEC exhibit visitors can:

• Learn about programs and services for families with young children.

• Participate in family-friendly activities designed for young children.

• Discover how IDEC is working to strengthen Illinois’ early childhood system through a more connected, family-centered approach.

“The Illinois State Fair is one of the best opportunities to connect with families from all over the state,” said IDEC Secretary Teresa Ramos. “We’re excited to introduce the department, highlight the resources available to children and families, and share more about the important working happening every day.”

The Illinois State Fair runs from August 13-23 in Springfield. Fairgoers are encouraged to stop by the IDEC exhibit in the First Lady’s tent located on Main Street to learn more about the department’s programs and services and how IDEC is working to ensure every child can thrive from their earliest years.

About the Illinois Department of Early Childhood

The Illinois Department of Early Childhood (IDEC) is the state’s first standalone agency designed to serve young children, families, and the early childhood workforce. By bringing early childhood services under one agency, IDEC is working to build a more connected, equitable and family-centered, early childhood system that helps every child thrive.
