Starting July 1, 2026, the Illinois Department of Early Childhood will officially become the lead agency for Child Care Licensing, Head Start State Collaboration Office Grant, Home Visiting, Early Intervention and the Child Care Assistance Program, Early Childhood Block Grant, and a range of other early childhood support to families, providers and educators.

Research, Evaluation, & Data Committee

The charge of the Research, Evaluation, and Data (RED) Committee is to assess statewide data initiatives and capacity in order to improve the delivery of ECEC services to children and families. The RED Committee works to ensure equity in data collection and reporting across systems.

The Committee's current priority is to develop a set of research and analytic priorities based on the needs of advocates, the agencies and with a focus on equity-evaluated against the capabilities of the agencies and the Illinois Longitudinal Data System to support these efforts.
