Starting July 1, 2026, the Illinois Department of Early Childhood will officially become the lead agency for Child Care Licensing, Head Start State Collaboration Office Grant, Home Visiting, Early Intervention and the Child Care Assistance Program, Early Childhood Block Grant, and a range of other early childhood support to families, providers and educators.

Parent CCAP Co-Payment Rates

Parents who have been approved for child care benefits are required to help pay for the cost of their child care.

Parents MUST make a payment, called the Parent Co-Payment, to your child care provider each month. The amount of your Parent Co-Payment is shown on the Approval Notice.

The State will deduct the Parent Co-Payment, from the total charges paid to your provider up to the maximum child care rate. If the co-payment is more than the total charges, the parent pays the lesser amount to the provider and no payment is made by the state. The Department will not pay for any child care charges over the maximum rate.

Your provider will tell you when to pay the Parent Co-Payment, each week or once a month.

If you have more than one provider, only one provider will be assigned to collect the Parent Co-Payment. The amount of the Parent Co-Payment will be shown on the Approval Notice for the provider assigned to collect the Parent Co-Payment. The Approval Notice will show if the provider is not assigned to collect the Parent Co-Payment.

The amount of your Parent Co-Payment is based on gross monthly income and family size.

Determining Co-Payment Rates

Use the chart below to determine below co-payment rates for any month where the children are non-school age, or from June thru August where the children are school-age, or from September through May where the school-age children are approved for full-time care.

Then click "Filter" and the chart will then display the monthly income limis for each family size based on your status. 

What's my status?

  • New Application - Child currently not enrolled in care
  • Redetermination - Child entering an additonal year of care - income can extend to the following ranges at the time of redetermination to qualify for a new 12-month eligibility period.
  • 3-Month Extenstion - In certain instances, children may be eligible for an additonal three months of care to give a family time to trasntion when found inilebilble due to an increase income beyond the redetermination limits.

Use the chart below to determine your monthly copayment based on family size and monthly countable income.

If all the children in care are age 5 to 13 years, are enrolled in school, and are approved for only part-time days (less than 5 hours per day) during services months of September through May, the Family Copayment will be assessed at 50% per the "School-age Co-Payment" column for those months. The full-time co-pay will be assessed for June, July and August.
